Bibetech, a company based in Vicenza, Italy, decided to develop a new, highly sustainable food packaging made from renewable raw materials such as vegetable biomass waste.
In response to new European packaging regulations, the company has succeeded in using industrial microbial fermentation and photosynthesis processes to induce more than 300 species of bacteria to produce next-generation natural biopolymers with which to develop packaging. Natural biopolymers, Bibetech explains, are biodegradable in all environments, from the soil to the oceans.
In 2019, Bibetech acquired Internova Packaging, a company specialising in the moulding of food packaging; in 2020, it continued its expansion with the acquisition of Marostica Stampi, which was later transformed into a mould design centre; and in 2022, it created the Food Packaging Hub. Today, the group employs two hundred people, including a team specialised in sustainability and innovation, and has a turnover of more than 30 million euros; in addition, the investment of 13 million euros in research into innovative materials over the last three years has enabled the expansion of production facilities.
