The collaboration between Seda and Valcolatte has brought to market a new packaging solution for burrata: a paper-recyclable container that ensures high preservation performance while using fibers sourced exclusively from certified forests.
The container has been developed with a flat rim designed to provide reliable and secure sealing throughout the product’s entire shelf life. Its structure incorporates an advanced water vapor barrier (WVTR – Water Vapour Transmission Rate), a key feature for preserving the freshness, quality, and organoleptic characteristics of burrata.
Designed for the Circular Economy
The solution is recyclable within the paper waste stream and stems from a shared commitment to responsible innovation, based on the use of renewable materials, eco-design principles, and the optimization of the functional performance of food packaging. Like all paper-based products manufactured by Seda, the new container is made using paper sourced exclusively from certified forests managed according to rigorous environmental sustainability standards.
Thanks in part to these best practices, the European paper value chain is now recognized as one of the most advanced examples of a circular economy: over the past 30 years, Europe’s forest area has increased by more than 19 million hectares, and European forests continue to expand at a rate equivalent to approximately 1,500 football fields per day.
This collaboration provides yet another example of how packaging can evolve from being a simple container into a genuine product technology, capable of enhancing product preservation, food safety, and the consumer experience, while simultaneously supporting the sustainability objectives of the food industry.
Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Arzano, Seda operates 13 production facilities across Europe and the United States and specializes in the development of sustainable packaging solutions for food, beverages, ice cream, and food service applications.
