Sustainability in the food and beverage packaging sector takes a step forward with the launch of the Food and Beverage Carton Alliance (FBCA), an organisation formed through the merger of ACE (The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment) and EXTR:ACT. This new body aims to strengthen the role of beverage cartons as essential, renewable, and circular packaging solutions.
The FBCA seeks to unite carton manufacturers and board suppliers in a global effort to enhance food safety, reduce waste, and support low-carbon circular economies. “We are thrilled to expand globally and advocate for the role of beverage cartons in building a more resilient and low-carbon future,” said Patrick Verhelst, Chairman of the FBCA Board of Directors.
Innovation and Global Vision
With the aim of extending the reach of sustainability beyond Europe, the FBCA is committed to leading the sector towards increasingly innovative solutions. Beverage cartons, made from renewable resources and designed for recycling, offer a tangible response to global challenges such as reducing food waste and CO₂ emissions.
The new FBCA Board of Directors, which includes representatives from leading companies such as Elopak, Billerud, SIG, Tetra Pak, and Stora Enso, will guide the organisation towards ambitious goals, working closely with global stakeholders.
Comprehensive Sustainability
Among FBCA’s priorities is the promotion of a bio-circular economy, maximising efficiency across the entire lifecycle of food and packaging systems. Through its global competence centres and advocacy activities, the organisation aims to provide tools and concrete data to support sustainable policies and global regulations.
A Future-Focused Impact
The launch of the FBCA marks a significant milestone in the transition towards more sustainable food systems. This initiative represents a tangible example of how the private sector can pool resources and expertise to address today’s environmental, social, and economic challenges.
With the ambition of building a greener future, the FBCA positions itself as a key player in promoting renewable and circular packaging, serving both consumers and the planet.
