DS Smith’s state-of-the-art production facility in Castelfranco Emilia (Modena) is a key investment that will strengthen the company’s leadership position in the field of sustainable paper and board packaging in Italy.
Production has begun at the new DS Smith factory in Castelfranco Emilia in the province of Modena, a cutting-edge facility in terms of technology and sustainability built on a 34,000 square metre site.
The corrugator and three machines for finished product conversion are already in operation along with all the complementary equipment. When fully operational, the facility will have up to 10 production lines and automated high-bay warehouses with an annual production capacity of more than 200 million square metres.
“The investment comes on the back of DS Smith’s significant growth in Italy over the last ten years and will help the company achieve its ambitious expansion plans in the country,” said Paolo Marini, Managing Director of DS Smith Packaging Italia. “The market for recyclable and environmentally sustainable paper-based packaging is set to grow significantly due to the steady rise of e-commerce and the continued expansion of traditional food & beverage markets.”
The plant will employ more than 80 people and will make a major contribution to the region’s economy.
