Morro™ Coating food delivery containers now arrive in Italy
Following its success in Austria and Germany, Just Eat Takeaway.com is bringing to Italy its food delivery container made with Morro™ Coating, a plant-protein-based coating developed in collaboration with Xampla and Huhtamaki. . The initiative is part of a broader plan across 10 European markets, aimed at reducing single-use plastics and promoting more sustainable packaging among restaurant partners.
The new boxes, made from corrugated paper sourced from sustainable materials, are designed to be fully recyclable and resistant to oils and moisture. They also provide high thermal insulation without the use of synthetic films. With this innovative material, Just Eat Takeaway.com aims to significantly reduce the environmental impact of food deliveries, offering restaurants and consumers a more sustainable solution without compromising service quality.
From a regulatory perspective, Morro™ Coating packaging is certified “plastic-free” by the United Kingdom’s National Physical Laboratory and fully compliant with the European Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD). Its natural composition allows direct disposal without separating plastics, simplifying recycling and providing benefits in terms of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
At Just Eat, we are always looking for new synergies and collaboration opportunities with innovative companies that share our goal of tackling single-use plastic waste - said Daniele Contini, Country Manager of Just Eat Italy - By bringing this solution to Italy, we provide our partners with an alternative that not only meets regulatory requirements but also protects food integrity and significantly reduces plastic consumption. This is not a pilot test, but a real large-scale implementation that allows us not only to offer a sustainable option to customers and partners, but also to have a positive impact on the planet.
