Nets from ecological fibres

Lincredibile is a revolutionary line of products with a flax fibre core for highly sustainable food packaging. Recently launched on the market, it is already used by supermarkets in France and Germany

Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale along with Kuku International Packaging, a manufacturer of packaging materials, promote and spread the potential of flax fibres as a green alternative to plastic, to give shape to a product born from the earth that, in a short time, would return to the earth. The two companies have established a partnership with the aim of reducing environmental pollution caused by plastic nets used in food packaging, through the use of flax fibres.

After three years of experiments, the two companies, driven by the common goal to contribute to the conservation of the planet and alleviate the current environmental and climate crisis, have combined their respective know-how to create Lincredibile, a family of nets for the packaging of fruits, vegetables and seafood obtained from flax fibres, as an alternative to synthetic fibers.

In Italy alone, every year, about 250 million packs of garlic and about 20 million potato bags are consumed for a total of about 11 million kg of plastic. These figures highlight the urgency of a change, which is now possible thanks to the use of flax fibres.

Pierluigi Fusco Girard, CEO of Linificio and Canapificio Nazionale, said: "Two considerations emerge from the Cop 26 conference in Glasgow. The first is that in these times we must take actions to safeguard the future of our planet. The second is that cooperation is fundamental for the necessary ecological transition, as a means to bring together ideas and knowledge from very different sectors. Our project is the synthesis of these two beliefs. In fact, we have joined forces and ideas to contribute, in a concrete way, to the reduction of the environmental impact of the textile and plastics industries. It is a small step compared to the challenges that lie ahead, but it is also the demonstration that something can be done, together."

Raffaele Bonzagni, general manager of Kuku International Packaging stated: "I am proud of having created, together with Pierluigi Fusco Girard and with the unconditional support of both our companies, a new line of products that really contributes to the sustainability of our planet. The products of the Lincredible line can be already found in French and German supermarkets and we hope they will soon be used in Italy as well."

Flax fibres can also be used as a component for other types of packaging to replace plastics: transparent windows for paper bags, internal reinforcement for paper packaging and paper adhesive tape, as well as crates for fruit and vegetables.
