CORIPET, the consortium recognised by the Ministry of the Environment that brings together producers and recyclers of PET bottles, has closed its 2024 financial year by unanimously approving a budget that reflects significant achievements in environmental, economic, and public service terms.
With a turnover exceeding €160 million, a net profit of €7.5 million, and a market share of 52.6% (up from 51% the previous year) of PET liquid containers placed on the market (around 234,000 tonnes), CORIPET confirms its role as a key player in Italy’s circular economy thanks to its "bottle to bottle" project — from bottle to new bottle.
Thanks to the extension of the ANCI-CORIPET Agreement, separate collection coverage now reaches 94.9% of the Italian population — nearly 56 million citizens — and includes over 7,000 municipalities. In addition, selective collection through reverse vending machines allows around 29.6 million people to dispose of PET bottles at more than 1,800 machines (an increase of 31% nationally compared to 2023), located throughout Italy in large-scale retail outlets, schools, and other public gathering places.
On the environmental front, more than 165,000 tonnes of PET bottles were sent for recycling in 2024, contributing to the achievement of the EU target of 50% recycling by 2025 — a target already surpassed with a recycling rate of 52.1%. Furthermore, CORIPET managed 28,331 tonnes of non-recoverable material, which is normally destined for incineration or landfill, by directing it entirely to energy recovery, thus achieving the goal of "zero landfill".
These results were also made possible by increased revenues from the CRC (Conai Remuneration Contribution) — €67 million — and from the sale of recycled PET — €82.8 million — along with careful cost management and the recovery of the post-consumer PET liquid container market.
