After winning the German Packaging Award (which took place on the occasion Fachpack trade show, in Norimberga on 27 September, 2022) in the sustainability category, the adapa Group, austrian specialist in flexible packaging solutions, has won the WorldStar Packaging Award 2023 (which will be held on the occasion of Interpack, in Düsseldorf on May, 2023) in the "Packaging Materials and Components" category for its recyclable shrink bag VACUshrink(re) MEX 55. With this prestigious award, adapa is setting new standards in the shrink segment with a demonstrably resource-saving solution.
The recyclable shrink bag VACUshrink(re) MEX 55 with Evoh high barrier is suitable for fresh, processed meat or non-gassy/ripened cheese. By using three-dimensionally stretched polyolefin structures with a film thickness of only 55 μm, adapa has succeeded in meeting the high requirements for product protection and processability and combine these with greater sustainability.
The material containing a PE sealing layer does not require the usual PA layers or PVdC barriers and scores with excellent mechanical properties: VACUshrink(re) MEX 55 can be processed smoothly on standard packaging systems and demonstrates good puncture resistance. The shrink bag is fully recyclable according to the Ceflex Design for a Circular Economy Guideline. The jury of the award praised adapa's approach in finding a more sustainable solution for the mostly unnoticed, but in large quantities accumulating industrial food packaging with this product.
The competition is one of the most important events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and counts among the most important international awards in the field of packaging. For the 2023 awards, 488 entries were received from 41 countries around the world. Max Wolfmaier, Manager Sustainability at adapa said:
With the recyclable shrink bag, adapa aims to further advance the circular economy in industrial food packaging, which offers great potential for high-quality recycling streams. The WorldStar Packaging Award 2023 is a valuable confirmation of our continuous commitment to conserve more resources.
