Paranova, a specialist in sustainable packaging solutions for the food and consumer goods sectors, has completed the expansion of its St Neots manufacturing operation in the UK with a £5 million investment (approximately US$6.7 million). The project has added 2,000 square metres of production space and helped triple the capacity of what the company describes as Europe’s largest fibre-based food-to-go packaging facility.
The St Neots operation, supported by three board manufacturing sites, now produces more than 700 million recyclable food-to-go packs annually. Among the key additions is a new custom-built Bobst press designed for lined board applications used in sandwich skillets, wrap boxes, trays and other food-to-go packaging formats.
The investment forms part of Paranova’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of fibre-based solutions as an alternative to traditional plastic and foam packaging. In this context, the company is preparing the next generation of RecyclaLite, a solution developed to reduce barrier coating weight while maintaining the performance required for food applications and helping customers lower the costs associated with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes.
“This investment marks a defining moment for Paranova and reinforces our ambition to lead the future of sustainable food-to-go packaging,” said Jo Ormrod, CEO of Paranova.
The expansion comes only a few months after Paranova launched as an independent company following the acquisition of Coveris’ Paper Business Unit by Kingswood Capital Management.
