Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has launched Elite MAP, a 100% recyclable rPET tray (certified by RecyClass), to create a closed-loop packaging solution for fresh meat. This solution can be combined with the innovative KP Zapora tray and the recyclable kp FlexiLid EH 145 R barrier film to create a fully recyclable and ready-to-use MAP solution.
Tray2Tray is an initiative to recover and recycle PET food trays into new, safe, protective and fully recyclable trays.
Cecilia Guardado, Marketing Director, Trays, at KP, commented:
With KP Elite's closed loop, we want to lead the fresh meat market. Packaging circularity is one of the biggest challenges in the market, but combined with our KP Tray2Tray initiative, KP Elite is a major step forward in reducing waste and promoting a more resource-efficient protein packaging ecosystem. As part of our KP 'Investing in Better' sustainability strategy, we aim to make 100% of our packaging solutions recyclable by the end of 2025, and KP Elite is another important step towards achieving this goal.
To make the processing and packaging industry more efficient, kp Elite MAP is designed to seal through contamination, reducing the need for rework and repackaging, and requiring lower sealing times and temperatures. The resulting hermetic seal also minimises leakage. For retailers and consumers, kp Elite offers a peelable seal, exceptional clarity and longer shelf life to enhance product appeal.
