Rekeep: Recovery and Reuse of Packaging Film

Rekeep Groupthrough its subsidiary Servizi Ospedalieri, a company specialising in laundry and sterilisation services for the healthcare sector, has announced the launch of a pilot project for the recovery and reuse of flexible packaging film. This material is used for the delivery and collection of healthcare textiles (sheets and uniforms) at hospitals served by the Group's laundering services.

Servizi Ospedalieri will be the first company in Italy to trial the Re.Wind solution in the healthcare sector. This innovative approach involves the use of 100% recycled polyethylene film, which, after use, will be collected by Servizi Ospedalieri from its clients and recycled to be reintroduced into the production cycle. The film will thus be both recyclable and recycled up to 100%. This project marks a pioneering achievement in the Italian healthcare sector.

By adopting the Re.Wind solution, Servizi Ospedalieri will be able to reduce emissions by 1.15 tonnes of CO2 for every tonne of film used. Considering that the company consumes an average of 407 tonnes of polyethylene annually, this new solution will enable a reduction of over 468 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The complete reuse process for post-consumer film (LD-PE) will also provide a significant environmental advantage compared to conventional processes, which typically rely on virgin LD-PE material, generate waste for disposal, involve downcycling, or resort to incineration for energy production. The Re.Wind solution will achieve a 35.6% reduction in the Global Warming Potential (GWP1) indicator.

With Re.Wind, Rekeep Group reaffirms its commitment to a future where technological innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
