Tetra Pak has published its 25th Sustainability Report, which tracks the progress of the company's sustainability programme. The document focuses on five interdependent areas: food systems, circularity, climate, environment and social sustainability, and highlights a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain and a 47% reduction in its operations from 2019.
An important milestone in this respect is the launch of an aseptic beverage carton with a paper-based barrier that reduces its environmental footprint by a third (33%) and allows the company to take a step towards even more sustainable food packaging. This is a major achievement, made possible by a 100 million euros global investment in packaging research and development in 2023, which will continue on an annual basis for the next five to ten years.
The FY2023 report also highlights other achievements of the company over the past year. In particular, Tetra Pak was recognised for its leadership in corporate transparency and performance for the eighth year in a row.
Examples of this are the PolyAl-based pallets designed by CPR System for large retailers, the new outdoor tile launched in collaboration with Leroy Merlin and produced by Artemisia in TwoECO, a recycled material made from PolyAl together with a proportion of wood sawdust. Finally, a new outdoor solution has recently been launched in collaboration with Felli, which also contains a percentage of these components, guaranteeing high performance and versatility.
