Petcore Europe 2024 General Assembly

About 330 people attended the Petcore 2024 general assembly (Brussels 7-8 February, 2024), the European association representing the whole PET supply chain. More than 50 presentations on stage with a huge space for new technologies and applications, described the state of the art of the European PET industry in a context that necessarily had  to deal with global dynamics deeply influenced by geopolitical situation caused by the war in Ucraine and by the crisis in the Red Sea.

Inevitably, this had a strong impact on the energy market and the supply in general, and a put the European industry at a disadvantage compared to the competition coming from Eastern markets, which can penetrate in Europecommercially with a certain ease.

PET industry and  the packaging industry in particular are going through a period of transition that, according to the insiders must lead to overcoming this conjuncture, which is also characterized by an environmental political context and European regulatory frameworks that require a big effort from  companies to achieve the legislative conformity and standards requested for the industry.

On the contrary, the situation is favourable for recycling and recycled materials, which, although exposed to fluctuations of raw material prices and  inflation, are positively affected by an environmental politicy which strongly drives the presence of recycled materials in products.

Italian industry, which has always been close to the Belgian association, was represented by several companies working  in the industry, such as Sorema and Amut as gold sponsors of the event.
