The conference “Circularity of PET thermoforms: how to improve the collection and sorting of PET thermoforms?”, organised by the thermoforming working group of Petcore Europe, is scheduled to take place in Dijon and Beaune on 27 and 28 May. The European PET association, through its working group, which has been active since 2015 and includes over 80 companies in the sector, is committed to helping the value chain meet the goals set by the PPWR: 55% collection, sorting and recycling, and 30% recycled content for PET thermoforms.
On the first day of the event, presentations will be made by the leading experts in the field of thermoforms, followed by roundtables with industry guests. In addition, high-level speakers will explain the European Commission’s goals and expectations for PET trays. On the second day, Petcore Europe has planned a visit to one of the most sophisticated recycling plants, which will offer a demonstration of the efficiency achieved in the collection and sorting of PET thermoforms.
The conference will feature presentations by leading authorities and operators in the sector, as well as discussions on the implications of the PPWR for the thermoforming industry. Specifically, the work on standardisation through CEN/CENELEC for design for recycling will be examined, along with Petcore’s internal activities, including the Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP), which serves as a solid framework for assessing the recyclability of thermoformed packaging.
Furthermore, updates from the task forces within Petcore Europe’s thermoforming working group will be presented, covering key areas such as collection and sorting, recycling technologies, food contact, standardisation, and communication. These sessions will include presentations, successful case studies, and open discussions to promote industry collaboration.
