Chioggia on top of the podium in the collection of plastic packaging

The Municipality of Chioggia won the 2021 edition of "Un sacco in Comune, a tutta plastica!", a competition promoted by Corepla and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition that involved the Municipalities of Chioggia, Fiumicino, Crotone, Termini Imerese, Marsala and Licata to improve the quality of the separate collection of plastic packaging. Chioggia, which already boasted a very positive trend, in the four weeks of the campaign recorded an improvement of over 3% in the collection of plastic packaging, thus reaching the highest step of the podium.

"An important example from Chioggia which shows how we can always do more and better. Congratulations to the citizens, the operators involved in the collection, the municipal authorities and the service managers, for the excellent and effective teamwork that has allowed us to achieve a qualitative improvement of the plastic collected, testifying of a considerable level of sensitivity with respect to environmental issues. It is essential that citizens always keep in mind that virtuous behaviors and constant attention in separating waste maximize recycling and contribute to giving a second life to plastic packaging" said Giorgio Quagliuolo, president of Corepla.

Thanks to the commitment of its citizens, Chioggia has been awarded a furnishing accessory made of recycled plastic obtained from separate collection.

"Our administration has always been attentive to respect for the environment: we have included eco-compactors for the collection of plastic bottles; promoted ‘Ecoattivi’ project to reward the efforts of citizens who devote, for example, their free time to cleaning up the beach, canals and lagoon. Soon we will start - and present - a new and important service for the collection and recovery of plastic at our fish market to make Chioggia more and more attentive to the environment. Citizens must be increasingly aware and respectful of our city and of the delicate territory in which we are so lucky to live" commented Daniele Stecco, the city councillor for fishing and investee companies.
