RecycletheOne, the communication strategy of Petcore

Petcore's RecycletheOne campaign, created to raise awareness of PET packaging recycling, is now in its third year with the addition of the Italian market and social media platforms TikTok and Instagram.

The RecycletheOne campaign, which refers to the number 1 on the bottom of PET bottles and trays, promotes the concept of PET packaging circularity in the EU and national markets, highlighting the importance of collection and recycling to ensure that fully recyclable PET does not end up in landfills or incinerators.

UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) recognises that PET is the most recycled plastic in the world, with two out of three PET bottles in Europe now collected for recycling. European legislation requires 90% of all PET drinks bottles to be collected by 2029. Today, some EU countries already collect more than this amount, but the necessary infrastructure must be put in place to enable all markets to reach the target and to allow countries that are lagging behind to catch up.

Antonello Ciotti, President of Petcore, said:

Politicians and consumers are increasingly recognising that PET is fully recyclable and can be reused. Our RecycletheOne campaign is working to tackle misinformation and communicate that consumers and institutions must work together to increase the separate collection of PET bottles and trays, as they are not waste but a resource for the future.

The campaign also illustrates how PET packaging can contribute to decarbonisation and zero emissions in Europe by 2050, thanks to the properties of this material, which is recyclable, refillable and has a lower carbon footprint than other materials used for packaging.
