Magis, a company specialising in the production of customised adhesive tapes and sealing systems for the body care sector, has launched BOPP, the first Bi-Oriented Polypropylene adhesive tape made entirely from recycled polypropylene and certified by Bureau Veritas.
BOPP joins Magis' range of eco-sustainable products and is available in two versions: 100% and 50% recycled, with either acrylic or hot melt adhesive, making it ideal for carton packaging. The innovative technology used involves the use of recycled polypropylene derived from used cooking oil (UCO), ensuring the same performance as virgin material in terms of transparency, tensile strength, and technical characteristics.
Competitive advantages
The launch of BOPP brings significant sustainability benefits:
- Reduction of plastic waste, contributing to the circular economy and decreasing the consumption of virgin plastic;
- Lower energy impact, with a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to virgin polypropylene production;
- Easier recycling when used in combination with polypropylene packaging.
In addition to environmental benefits, there are also economic advantages: using recycled materials enables companies to access tax incentives and European subsidies, reducing production costs and increasing competitiveness.
Marco Marzi, President and Head of R&D at Magis, stated:
BOPP represents another step forward in our offering of sustainable solutions. Thanks to our R&D department, we continue to develop unique technologies in Italy and Europe. This adhesive tape guarantees high performance on various cardboard surfaces, with superior adhesion. Moreover, it can be customised with prints of up to eight colours, offering endless personalisation possibilities.
