International Paper, new plant for sustainable packaging

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with production expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2027

International Paper (IP) is planning to build a new sustainable packaging facility in Rankin County, Mississippi. The investment will increase production capacity and efficiency. The demand for sustainable packaging solutions is rising globally, and companies are being challenged to adapt their production processes accordingly. This decision is part of the company's strategic growth plans and aims to increase operational efficiency and create long-term value.

The new plant will be built on an 80-acre site, just a few miles from the existing facility in Richland. This change of location is intended not only to optimise the cost structure but also to improve product quality and supply chain reliability, they state.

The new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, maximising safety and efficiency for employees. Employees from the existing facility in Richland are to transfer to the new site upon completion.

International Paper aims to create added value, both economically and environmentally, through the new facility. The modern infrastructure is intended to help reduce energy consumption and increase the efficiency of production processes. This aligns with the company's commitment to sustainable packaging solutions that meet the demands of a changing world.

Keith Townsend, Group Vice President and General Manager for IP North America Packaging Solutions East, emphasised that the investment in modernising the production facilities in Mississippi will improve service quality and provide customers with the best sustainable packaging solutions. This strategic decision underscores International Paper's long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability.
