HDPE resin for tethered caps

TotalEnergies has announced the commercial launch of a new high-density polypropylene (HDPE) resin for tethered cap applications, enabling reduced material usage, improved recovery and recycling.

The new HDPE 20HD07 resin has improved mechanical and organoleptic properties, enabling identical technical cap performance with less material than the market reference, thus reducing the carbon footprint of end applications such as beverage or cosmetic bottles. It is also designed for mono-material PE packaging solutions to facilitate sorting and recycling, contributing to the circular economy.

Suitable for food contact applications, this new product meets all the requirements of the caps and closures market. It is fully compliant with the European Directive (EU) 2019/904 on reducing the environmental impact of plastic products.

Olivier Greiner, Vice President, Polymers Europe & Orient at TotalEnergies, said:

TotalEnergies is fully committed to improving the environmental impact of its products. The application of eco-design principles in our development process allows us to further increase the potential for downgauging, while maintaining high performance and improving recyclability, in line with our ambition to produce 30% circular polymers by 2030.
