A greener Easter with Mondelēz

Cadbury bags and chocolate bars go recyclable for a more sustainable Easter

Mondelēz International marks a new milestone in its transition toward more sustainable packaging. For the upcoming Easter holidays, Cadbury Mini Eggs bags in 31.9 g, 74 g, and 256 g sizes will be made with 65% certified recycled plastic, while Cadbury chocolate bars will contain 80% certified recycled plastic. The Cadbury Special Gesture line also gets a green makeover, with the traditional ribbon handle replaced by a recyclable cardboard handle.

The production of these packages has been carried out in partnership with Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, using AmFiniti™ Recycled Content technology, which transforms post-consumer plastic into new packaging materials. This initiative will use approximately 134 tonnes of recycled plastic, equivalent to around 16 million chocolate bars and 70 million Mini Eggs bags per year.

The company is further demonstrating its commitment to improving packaging recyclability: currently, 96% of Mondelēz packaging is designed to be recyclable, with a global target of 98% by 2030 and a 25% reduction in virgin plastic in rigid packaging.

To enhance transparency for consumers, Mini Eggs packs will feature a scannable QR code, providing information on the use of recycled materials and Mondelēz’s overall sustainability approach.
