COIM, an Italian multinational that has been producing speciality chemicals since 1962 and operates worldwide through nineteen production and commercial companies, will be exhibiting at Plast 2023 with a wide range of innovations inspired by maximum efficiency and sustainability.
Sustainable Solutions for Flexible Packaging: Novacote and Coiminks at Plast 2023
With the Coiminks and Novacote ranges, COIM offers flexible packaging manufacturers a '3-in-1' solution: offering adhesives, coatings and inks from a single source is a COIM speciality.
Environmental sustainability in this sector is achieved according to four main guidelines:
- Developing mono-material plastic solutions: for example, in collaboration with Ceflex, COIM has participated in a project to develop mono-material packaging using recycled PP and, in collaboration with Recyclass, certifies adhesives suitable for mechanical recycling;
- Offering compostable solutions: the company presents the new solvent-based adhesive Novacote NE 810 S + CE 510, tested according to EN 13432 and certified OK Compost Industrial, according to TUV Austria, Seedling and BPI standards.
- Coiminks' CoLam FX range of inks has recently been awarded and renewed the OK Compost Industrial TUV Austria certificate, which allows converters to produce compostable packaging using certified compostable substrates and components, and using inks within the maximum application limits specified in the certificate;
Product compliance: Coim has developed a new portfolio of solvent-free and solvent-based solutions for the production of food and pharmaceutical packaging, offering improved features in terms of sustainability, technical and application performance, safety and compliance with food contact regulations; - Non-plastic monomaterial: Monomaterial packaging has the great advantage of being easier to recycle. For paper packaging, COIM offers a wide range of products with primer, OPV, heat-seal coating and moisture and grease barrier properties, allowing combinations of solutions and applications to achieve increasing performance in terms of appearance, sealability and barrier. For aluminium foil packaging, the multinational company offers an innovative range of PVC/styrene-free heat-seal coatings thanks to the integration of high molecular weight PES in the production process, which represents a major step forward in terms of safety and compliance with food contact regulations.
