Over the past few days, 19 companies and organisations from 9 European countries gathered in Novara for the launch of the ‘Terrific’ flagship project, coordinated by Novamont and aimed at supporting the development of the European bio-based industry.
The first meeting of the European project (Horizon-JU-CBE-2023) coordinated by Novamont, which aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of bio-based solutions for the packaging sector by improving performance, circularity and efficient use of resources along the entire value chain, was held in Novara.
The project, called 'Terrific', is one of four flagship projects funded until 2024 by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE), the public-private partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), which supports the development of the European bio-based industry. It is a €16 million initiative dedicated to the development and demonstration of eight innovative solutions using renewable raw materials for the packaging sector.
The project, led by Novamont, involves 19 partners, including 4 SMEs, from 9 European countries.
One of the objectives is to valorise the by-products of agro-industrial supply chains and produce compostable and recyclable biopolyesters and biomaterials with more than 95% renewable content.
Bio-based and biodegradable materials are an important tool for developing smart solutions in the logic of the circular bio-economy, and this project must demonstrate in practice all the innovation potential of these versatile materials in the packaging sector, integrating a variety of technologies, connecting different supply chains and promoting diversified solutions in the territories,
said Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont.
