Argos Packaging has announced a new strategic partnership with Bio4Pack for the introduction of innovative trays made from Paddy Straw, a material derived from rice plantation residues. This collaboration marks another step forward in the development of sustainable packaging solutions, fully aligned with the latest European regulations and with a significant positive impact on both the environment and society.
A circular innovation for the fruit and vegetable sector
The agreement with Bio4Pack will allow Argos Packaging to offer the fruit and vegetable sector trays made from rice straw, a renewable resource that, if not recovered, would be incinerated, releasing harmful emissions. Using this material helps to significantly reduce the carbon footprint, improve air quality, and protect water resources, particularly in drought-prone areas.
Sustainable innovation is not just about the product but also about its global impact. With this new packaging line, we are not only reducing pollution and material waste, but also offering a concrete solution for the future of the fruit and vegetable sector,
said Miquel van den Ende, Sustainability & Innovation Specialist at Argos Packaging.

Compliance with PPWR regulations and emission reduction
Paddy Straw trays are fully recyclable with paper and comply with the provisions of the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which promotes the reduction of plastic packaging and encourages the transition to more sustainable materials. Furthermore, thanks to optimised production processes, the environmental impact of these trays is minimised, making them an ideal solution for companies aiming to decarbonise their supply chains.
Sustainability and social impact
Beyond environmental benefits, the use of rice straw as a raw material helps improve the economic conditions of Asian farmers, particularly in Malaysia, by providing them with a new source of income. The initiative also creates job opportunities in the production and logistics sectors, demonstrating how the transition to a circular economy can bring tangible advantages both environmentally and socially.
Through its collaboration with Bio4Pack, Argos Packaging reaffirms its leadership in sustainable packaging innovation, contributing to a future in which packaging made from renewable raw materials can make a real difference for the environment and global communities.
