Label-Free Bottles by Carvalhelhos

Packaging is a strategic element for the commercial success of any product, influencing both profitability and corporate sustainability policies. In the field of primary packaging, sustainability is reflected in innovative solutions that combine creativity and functionality, such as the new label-free rPET bottles, which are becoming increasingly popular in the food & beverage sector.

A concrete example comes from Portugal, where the company Carvalhelhos, always committed to sustainability, has adopted a cutting-edge solution thanks to the EBS 8 KL ERGON stretch-blow moulding machine from SMI. This technology enables the production of PET and rPET bottles without plastic or paper labels, thereby reducing environmental impact and improving the recycling process.

An Eco-Friendly Innovation
The blow moulding machine installed at Carvalhelhos produces 0.33 L, 0.5 L, and 1.5 L rPET bottles with a flat base, eliminating the need for adhesive labels. Thanks to special moulds developed by SMIMEC, branding and product information are directly embossed onto the bottle surface using a system of raised and recessed reliefs, which also includes Braille details to enhance accessibility.

This solution completely eliminates the use of glue and paper or plastic supports, simplifying waste disposal and increasing the purity of recycled PET.

Benefits for the Environment and Consumers

  • 100% recyclable PET bottle
  • Compliance with environmental recycling regulations
  • Easier recycling process due to the absence of labels to remove
  • No glue usage, reducing waste materials
  • Lower quantity of materials to recycle
  •

Advantages for the Bottler

  • Cost savings on raw materials (labels and glue)
  • Lower storage costs
  • More efficient production process without the need for labelling
  • Simplified and more immediate PET recycling

The adoption of this technology allows companies to combine sustainability with brand image, offering innovative and distinctive packaging on store shelves.
