Retailers and Brand Owners: focus on large-scale retailers during the afternoon of the first day
The afternoon events on the first day of Packaging Speaks Green will be opened by Tim Letts, deputy director for climate and energy at the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Mr Letts will be presenting the work done by the WWF in partnership with businesses to set and achieve sustainability-related goals and those linked to the development of low-emission business models that are compatible with brands’ financial growth.
Some of the world’s leading retailers and manufacturers of fast-moving consumer goods will then present some real examples of best practices in the management of packaging in the various product industries, testifying to an objective and continuously developing commitment.
Large-scale retail impacts considerably on the dynamics of fast-moving consumer goods and therefore the industry has great responsibility in terms of the impact of this kind of consumption on climate change, use of resources and all areas of sustainable development. With this responsibility comes the ability to influence the entire production chain effectively and rapidly, establishing a strategic role for the industry in steering consumption towards a sustainable future.
Participants at the discussion include Roman Manthey (global supply chain engineering & infrastructure director at Coca-Cola Bottling Investment Group), Enrico Dolce (product development & sales manager at Fater, a joint venture between P&G and Angelini) and Clay Dockery (vice president of the corporate brands division at Massimo Zanetti Beverages USA).
The panel discussion dedicated to retailers, meanwhile, will involve contributions from not only members of large-scale retail based on a network of supermarkets (such as Coop), but also businesses that have revolutionised the habits of societies, whose understanding of social behaviour has enabled them to gain an online place for themselves within their users’ everyday life through a new kind of purchase tool (such as Amazon and Alibaba). These companies will be presented by Chiara Faenza (head of sustainability and value innovation at Coop) and Joseph Rake (senior packaging manager at Amazon).
