Gerhard Schubert at Fachpack 2024

The packaging industry is set to address key issues at this year’s Fachpack, driven by the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and increasing demands for climate protection. Under the theme "Transition in Packaging", the event will take place from 24 to 26 September 2024 in Nuremberg. Gerhard Schubert, a leading packaging machine manufacturer from Crailsheim, will showcase a broad range of sustainable and cost-effective solutions for consumer goods manufacturers at Stand 1-244 in Hall 1.

The "Power Compact" machine concept
One of the highlights at Schubert’s stand will be the new "Power Compact" machine concept. This state-of-the-art packaging line is designed for high productivity within a compact footprint, featuring advanced technology. Demonstrated by a bar packer with a single-lane erector and feeding system via the Comfort Feeder, the machine can perform erecting, filling, and closing at speeds of up to 60 cycles per minute. The system utilises minimal components efficiently due to its single-lane carton processing, lightweight 3D-printed robotic tools, and a blank infeed which allows continuous operation for up to five hours without needing a refill. This innovative erecting process can also be seamlessly integrated into other Schubert lines, providing material and resource savings while ensuring cost-effective operations.

Mission Blue: Schubert’s commitment to sustainability
Sustainability is a long-standing priority for Schubert. Through its Mission Blue sustainability initiative, the company has established ambitious goals, resulting in numerous concrete measures as detailed in the Schubert Annual 2023 report. Schubert aims to support consumer goods manufacturers in their journey towards sustainability by enhancing energy efficiency in machine operations and optimising the use of technical components to deliver peak performance with streamlined solutions.

Packaging and machine technology synergy
Schubert offers comprehensive solutions to address a variety of packaging challenges, from making existing cartons machine-compatible to developing new cardboard packaging alternatives to plastic. The company's flexible, modular, and easily adaptable packaging machines handle both conventional and fully recyclable packaging.

At the exhibition, visitors will discover how Schubert leverages its extensive experience with cardboard and innovative technologies, such as Dotlock, to create more sustainable packaging solutions. Dotlock technology allows for the assembly of solid or corrugated cardboard packaging without the use of glue, maintaining the same strength as glued packaging. Future integrations will enable the complete erecting process for Dotlock packaging within the packaging line.

Custom consultancy and tailored solutions
Schubert also provides consultancy services for transitioning to more sustainable plastic film packaging. The Schubert Comfort Package sample book guides customers in selecting the optimal flow-wrap film, balancing machinability and recyclability with specific product properties and requirements.
