Efficient Labelling that Enhances Productivity and Sustainability

An innovative labelling system not only reduces waste but also boosts business productivity, contributing positively to sustainability. A compelling example comes from a company in Central Europe that, after struggling with outdated and costly label printers, optimised its production process thanks to a solution provided by SATO and its partners.

The company transitioned from a centralised system with manual label application to an automated, decentralised process integrated directly into the packaging operations. This shift delivered tangible benefits, including:

• Reduced stock losses caused by labelling errors;
• Improved traceability and compliance with safety standards;
• Operational stability and overall efficiency gains.

A Strategic Shift for Business Sustainability
The main goal was to eliminate inefficiencies caused by unreliable printers and high maintenance costs. After confirming the previous supplier could not provide a viable solution, the company turned to SATO, which introduced the CL4NX Plus printer. Even during the trial month, it demonstrated exceptional reliability, printing over 15 km of labels without interruption.

To ensure a smooth transition from the centralised to the decentralised system, SATO later recommended the adoption of the S84NX print engines. This plug-and-play solution enabled automated end-of-line printing to be integrated without the need for costly engineering modifications, thereby preserving the value of previous investments.

Advanced Technology for Sustainable Packaging
SATO’s S84NX print engine, with its extruded aluminium structure and 16 ips speed, stands out for its adaptability to the most demanding industrial environments. Key features include:

• Application Enabled Printing (AEP): allows the printer to operate independently without middleware, directly interfacing with management systems, WMS, or ERP;
• Compatibility and ease of use: built-in emulations enable seamless adaptation to existing infrastructures;
• Simplified maintenance: the design allows easy access to internal components even when the engine is installed inline, reducing downtime.

This project demonstrates how optimising print processes is crucial for improving both productivity and sustainability. SATO’s technological innovation, combined with our partners’ expertise, enables us to offer cutting-edge solutions for a packaging industry that is increasingly efficient and responsible,

said Carlo Bulizza, Marketing Manager at SATO Italia.

A remarkable example of how technology can combine efficiency, sustainability, and innovation-paving the way for the future of green packaging.
