- 50% carbon footprint for new Alpla bottle

Alpla has developed a PET and recyclable wine bottle that can reduce the carbon footprint by up to 50 per cent and enable price savings of up to 30 per cent. This solution, already used in Austria by the pilot customer and development partner Wegenstein, is now available in 0.75 l and 1 l formats. The company plans to produce several million units per year as early as 2025 with plans to create solutions entirely in rPET. The bottle can be transparent or green and is suitable for all types of wine.

Lower material consumption, energy-saving production and the use of rPET play a key role in environmental impact. With 30 per cent rPET, savings of 42 per cent are achieved, while the ecological footprint of the solution made from 100 per cent rPET is halved to minus 50 per cent.

In addition, the reduced weight of the packaging also has a positive effect on shipping, creating a cost advantage.

The bottle is equipped with conventional metal screw caps and is compatible with the bottling lines of wine producers. In fact, Wegenstein fills PET bottles on the same bottling lines as glass bottles.

We are offering an innovative solution to consumers who care about our environment and climate,

said Herbert Toifl, managing director of the Wegenstein winery.
