According to Comieco's 29th Annual Report on the Separate Collection and Recycling of Paper and Cardboard in Italy, published recently, in 2023 the separate collection of paper and cardboard in Italy increased by almost 3% compared to 2022, reaching a record level of over 3.7 million tons. A trend that is also positively reflected in the recycling rate of cellulose packaging, which reached 92.3%, well ahead of the EU 2030 targets (85%).

Verallia, the food and beverage glass container manufacturer, has completed the acquisition of Vidrala in Italy, a company with sales of 131 million euros and EBITDA of 33 million euros in 2023.

A goal that is a starting point, as evidenced by the investment of more than 70 million euros up to 2024 in factories and along the value chain.

AeroFlexx, a manufacturer of sustainable packaging, has announced a partnership with Chemipack, a Polish family-owned company that manufactures household and personal care products, industrial fluids and wet wipes. This collaboration will enable AeroFlexx and Chemipack to bring innovative and sustainable packaging to the European market.

Arca Space Capital, a private equity fund promoted by Arca Fondi SGR and Space Capital Advisors, is investing in Mosaiq Group, a new business specialised in sustainable packaging for the luxury industry, which brings together five leading Italian companies in the sector: Valtenna (rigid boxes and cases), Bulgarelli Production (tags and micro-packaging), D'Auria Packaging (shopping bags), CO.Ri Sacchettificio (fabric bags and garment covers) and Brand Label (fabric labels).

Figures presented at the CIAL annual meeting on 16 May confirmed Italy's excellence in the management of aluminium packaging and packaging waste at European level, in line with the principles of the Circular Economy Action Plan.
