In the year of its 15th anniversary, at Marca 2023 - the fair dedicated to the modern retail sector held in Bologna on 18 and 19 January - Pro-Gest, one of the largest Italian producers of paper, cardboard, wrapping and packaging, presented Pillow, a 100% recyclable and compostable paper tray which can also be used for meat and fish.
This solution replaces the traditional plastic and polystyrene trays and, thanks to its particular composition, is able to absorb liquid and oily substances released by fresh foods such as vegetables, fruit, mushrooms, meat, fish and cheese, avoiding the stagnation of condensate inside the packaging and thus ensuring the excellent preservation of products.
In addition, Pillow is able to extend the shelf life of food. In fact, from the analysis of microbiological (moulds, yeasts, enterobacteria, coliform bacteria, etc.), chemical (from the loss of aromatic components) and organoleptic indicators, it emerged that with the same food and under the same storage conditions, the Pillow tray is able to preserve both the product and its flavours longer than traditional plastic packaging.
Valentina Zago, General Manager and Head of the Food Contact & Take Away Packaging sector, commented:
In the year of our 15th anniversary, with Pillow by Trevikart (a company born from Pro-Gest) we offer a product entirely made of 100% recyclable and compostable paper. We believe that this solution can fundamentally change the looks of our supermarkets, which are still prone to the use of traditional packaging. We are convinced that Pillow represents a huge step forward for the large retail sector and that it is able to meet the needs of consumers in terms of packaging sustainability.
